Emerson said this once: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines."
Assuming Emerson had it right, the Anchorage Daily News' editorial page editor is confessin' his little mind achin' for some consistency. He seems honked at who his Governor is stumpin' for. She is in sunny, peachy Georgia. If I got an all expense paid trip down south this time of year, I'd be there smilin' too gosh darn it.
What she is doin' is speakin' out to the hard workin' people about puttin' government back on the side of the people down there also on behalf of Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
The Anchorage editor observes that the person Governor Palin in hollarin' to the people about avoided serving in Vietnam. He got four student draft
deferments. When his number came up, he was medically
disqualified with knee troubles.
Troubled knees are wonderfully convenient. Mine give text book performance most days. But I whip out an ol' "breaststroker's knee" that bugged me one day when I was 12 anytime I am invited to go runnin' far or rollerbladin'. Knees are beautifully complex.
The Achorage editor is likely thinkin' his Governor should reconcile her supportin' this guy with her talkin' about her son Track's service: "....I am so proud of his independent and strong decision he has made, what
he decided to do and serving for the right reasons and serving
something greater than himself and not choosing a real easy path where
he could be more comfortable and certainly safer."
Not bein' saddled with consistency of thought must free up important space in hobglobin'd little minds...
