Mrs. Ted Haggard, wife of gay preacher who took his sexuality underground, told Oprah she knew about her husband's "struggle" with same sex attraction for years. She thought he was "winning the battle".
To me, "winning the battle" in this sorry situation might be the guy standing up and saying hey I'm gay, sorry I buffaloed you into marrying a gay man, let's move on before more time passes living our lie, here have all the money I have and the rights to all the money I will ever get.
But to Mrs. Ted Haggard, "winning" meant her husband denying who he was and pretending to be who he was not: a straight man in a heterosexual relationship.
So, like a whacky wife who thinks that "winning" is having a gay husband pretending not to be gay, she "prayed for him". There she sat, praying while her husband was in a hotel room with a gay man he paid for sex. And, as was more recently revealed, off canoodling with a 22 year old church volunteer who later got paid to shhh about her husband in exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement. Mrs. Haggard hear this: you let your kids grow up in a situation where they would inevitably learn that their god-preaching Dad lied to you; lied to himself; was unfaithful in marriage; bought sex; and, wrote a check to another man in exchange for his silence, all while you distracted yourself from your reality by prayin' in the name of protectin' marriage and your kids. Ya'll need to check yourselves in somewhere for a long winter's therapy session.
