A former saleswoman from Saks, Cecille Villacorta, allegedly stole $1.4 million from the store through a crafty scheme. Story goes that she added to the total sales - and consequently to the commissions she would get paid on those higher sales - by ringing up fake
returns and issuing credit back to customers on purchases they never
made.
Call it building goodwill with customers. Yeah. That's what it was.
Prosecutors also said she cost Saks $900,000 in gift cards that were never issued, but that got her thousands in commissions.
A computer system upgrade apparently outed her.
The saleswoman's lawyer says Cecille was fired because she was making too much in commissions. She worked at Saks for 6 years and was the store's top salesperson.
She faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of grand larceny.
