Hate hate hate when smart women married to politicians who have ego-induced girlie friends hop up on a podium to stand by the other woman's man, looking pathetic. Member Mrs. Spitzer, whose icky partner paid up? Ew. And how 'bout the wife of the Senator who did NOT use sign language in the men's room stall to signal he was up for stuff right then and there? Shoot me.
Bravo to Jenny Sanford.
She and her plane hopping cheater man are separated. As it should be.
She was as straightforward with the press as can be when she told them she had no clue where the guy was.
She said right out that she felt "shocked and obviously deeply hurt. I didn't think he had it in him" ... "It's hard to find out your husband is not who you thought he was".. she said very plainly
She also called him on the fathering thing: if he wanted his kids - he made a choice to go ahead and have 4 with her - he'd toe the line a little a bit. Like maybe think of their welfare and feelings more than how nice it might be to snuggle and smooch a new neck.
Jenny Rocks. May she set the new standard for smart, self-respecting ladies everywhere.

TAKING A PASS ON JFK's LOVER's BOOK

I don't think I'll be reading Mimi Beardsley Alford's life story, coming to a bookstore near you soon. Nothing against the woman. She may be a lovely woman these days. Mimi is a 66 year old retired church administrator from New York who had an affair with President Kennedy while she was a college intern in the White House. She is coming out of her affair-closet after sitting in it quietly for 40 years. Writing a book about boinking a married man at work, and no doubt getting paid handsomely for it.  What the heck. She is retired. The guy she married and divorced is now dead. The married man who swooned over her to get her into bed is too.  Mimi smells a cha-ching and is going for it.

I don't think I'll be laying out money to hear Mimi's story. A young willing woman who didn't mind having a fling with a guy whose wife was upstairs. A philandering kinda guy, who happened to hold public office,  noticed her, tested out her willingness, and took her up on it. The End.

Wouldn't spend money to read Monica's story either.

I had several tours of duty as an intern. One in high school at a state capitol. One in college in Washington, DC. Another in grad school. In those beautifully powerful buildings with ornate halls and people whose jobs I really wanted, I tried to dress, walk, talk and work as professionally as a kid could. Every now and then I felt like a policy maker. Helping all kinds of important people shape the future. So what that I was writing letters to angry citizens or taking notes at hearings. Letters and notes were part of the machine, I figured. It was a chance to learn stuff, make impressions, build a resume. Don't care to pay women who took the same kinds of opportunities at the same stage in life to boink the boss.

BLAGOJEVICH: "I'M A CELEBRITY...GET ME OUT OF HERE"

Patti Blagojevich, curse-spewing wife of former Illinois Governor Rod, who thought the best way to support his family was sellin' an appointment to a U.S. Senate seat, has a new gig.
Forgettabout makin' money by auctioning off public offices. The Blagojevich family will make its money the old fashioned way: reality TV appearances.
Rod wanted to do it himself. But a judge said no. Because the show is being filmed in Costa Rica, so Rod would have had to leave the country. And while federal corruption charges are pending against him, a judge thought it best that Rod stay put.
Enter Patti.
She will fly to LA to shoot a promotion for NBC's new reality show called "I'm a Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here".
On the Today show, Patti said she hopes her participation on the show will help her establish she is not the profanity-spewing person the federal wiretaps captured and played to the world. (Note to Patti: tapes do not portray a person as anything but precisely what they are...it's a tape, after all.)
Going out on a limb here to make a wild prediction: NBC's "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me out of Here" is going to die a speedy death. Don't even need to see it to leap there. If from the outset the best NBC can do is recruit wives of guys with lego-man-style hair who are up on federal charges and label her a celebrity for purposes of the show, it's goin' down.
S'pose what Patti might accomplish by splitting for Costa Rica is getting her two small kids used to being in a single parent household before dad likely departs for the big house....

HUFFINGTON POST: CONTEMPLATING HAIR

Huffington Post has been directing us to assess famous peoples' changing hair styles over the decades. Always women. Hillary is the latest. I am increasingly finding it to be mean thing to do. Hair that was fabo in the 70's looks dumb today. No matter who it is. We get it.

ANN COULTER: THE SMARTEST OF SMARTY PANTS

Ann Coulter is trashing Keith Olbermann for not having gone to her Ivy League school, Cornell. Where, she says, the average SATs topple those of his Cornell. Like this:   

"...Indeed, Keith is constantly lying about his "Ivy League" education. Keith didn't go to the Ivy League Cornell; he went to the Old MacDonald Cornell.

The real Cornell, the School of Arts and Sciences (average SAT: 1,325), is the only Ivy League school at Cornell and the only one that grants a bachelor of arts degree.

Keith went to an affiliated state college at Cornell, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (average SAT: about that of pulling guards at the University of South Carolina)..."  Full colmun here.

That Ann, a woman in her late 40's, is thinking about - and finding relevance in  - SAT scores tells us all we need to know about her.

Let us give Ann her due. She is a true Ivy girl. The kind of Ivy where only genuine smarty-pants need apply. And, yes, the average SAT scores at her school rock. Wow. Just as she says. You don't get any smarter than Ann. I mean it, too.

So, let us add the Real-Ivy-League-SAT-Calculator- Coulter to the camp of really, really smart people who are also mentally ill, as told by the National Alliance on Mental Illness:  Ernest Hemingway (suicidally depressed), Vincent Van Gogh (bipolar), Charles Dickens (clinical depression), Beethoven (bipolar).

There you have it, Ann. Extraordinary Smarts. And Whacked.

POLL ON NANCY PELOSI'S HAIR

Whew! to the Huffington Post for taking a poll on Nancy Pelosi's hair.
I let this go when Huffington did the same on Katie Couric. Katie, after all, is really defined by her 80's eye liner.
So, with that Whew! out of the way, let's move on.  I am partial to the look in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

ANN COULTER & PHARMACOLOGY

Joy Behar, comedian and a The View lady, sat in for Larry King recently. And Ann Coulter, sans the useful mouth wire she sported for a while, was her guest.
Political views and where she places herself on the continuum aside, Coulter leaves me thinking about drugs. (Not about taking them to drown her out: I've never turned to a drug stronger than Advil to ease my pain and will not go down that path for Coulter.)
I think about drugs because Coulter presents two drug-related realities.
Door 1: She is on them.
Door 2: She needs to be.
There is no door three.
Consider her. Coulter told Bahar fthat she is certain Chris Matthews wants to have sex with President Obama. And she opined that Scott McLellan, former press Secretary to President Bush, is "actually retarded".
The sort of word spewing Coulter plays in is not political debate or even a reasonably intelligent presentation of views. And throughout her routine, she is proactively unapologetic for truly offensive comments and plays nervously with her bottle blond hair. (By the way, Ann, the bottle blond does not comport with the blacker than black eye makeup and spider lashes...)
My best guess is that Ann is all about door two: in need of some good old fashioned exogenous chemicals to alter her biochemical function.

ANN COULTER

                                                                                           

Ann Coulter is annoying. They say. I would probably agree with them. I hesitate to say she annoys me categorically because I can't watch her for more than a minute or two. Then I must turn her off. The way I must laugh when someone trips.
Ann Coulter was on The View yesterday. To be fair to her, I watched several one minute segments, broken up in time.
Ann did her predictable schtick. Pointing to prisoner profiles and links to single moms. Arguing that actresses are electing single motherhood to advance their carreers. Sitting on the stage with several single mom/actresses, like Whoopie and Sherry, Ann was true to the shrill, offensive act she markets.
And she showed her commonality with sick people, not cold - flu sick, who force the people they converse with to perch on eggshells until the pain of talking with them is over.
Like this:

“I’ve never heard my book read aloud, like you’re reading Mein Kampf, and I just did,” Ann told Barbara, referring to Hitler’s manifesto. “Read it like you’re reading Mein Kampf again!”

“I don’t think I did,” Barbara said.

“I think you did,” Ann argued back. “You spat out the words, like I wasn’t sitting here.”

“I don’t appreciate the way you’re talking to her,” Sherri said next. “Nobody is attacking you. You don’t have to talk to her (Barbara) like that!”

KATIE COURIC & THE PALIN MYTH ABOUT OUR UNIVERSE

                                                                       

I feel lost. Upside down. Like I've been living a lie.
All these years I woke every day assuming Katie Couric was the center of the universe. If Katie isn't reading the news, it isn't news. Not for me anyway. I cancelled cable years ago, when MTV got old, because Wolff, Anderson, Rachel are nobodies. I only need Katie.
I cut my hair right after the new year. Because Katie did. I go a little heavy on the eye-liner because Katie likes that look.
Now, all of a sudden, Governor Palin announces that Katie is not the center of the universe.
What is that supposed to mean? Why would she say such a thing? Is she dipping into Tripp's other grandma's goods? Doesn't Palin know that this hate speech she is spewin' also isn't protected up there near Russia any more than it is down here near the east coast elite media?
I am wiped at this news. I need to go lay down, say my evening prayer and hope that tomorrow order is restored..."now I lay me, down to Katie...."

BALTIMORE MAYOR N' GIFT TAKING

                                                                               

Ahhh. Another. Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon was charged yesterday with 12 counts of felony theft, perjury, fraud and misconduct in office. She of course issued the standard statement that she has done nothing at all wrong. Yadda yadda yadda.

The case stems in part from at least $15,348 in gifts Dixon allegedly received from a former boyfriend who is also - go ahead guess - a city developer, Ronald Lipscomb, while she was City Council president. She also is accused of using as much as $3,400 in gift cards, some donated to her office for distribution to "needy families". She is alleged to have bought stuff like a Playstation and other things for her and her staff.

Another part of the indictment covers presents from Lipscomb, whom Dixon has said she dated briefly in late 2003 and early 2004. They include a $2,000 furrier certificate that she used to buy a Persian lamb coat and a "burnt umber mink coat"; $3,200 for a New York City trip that included a stay at the Trump International Hotel; a $1,518 plane ticket from Baltimore to Chicago; and thousands of dollars in cash to pay credit card bills built up during a Chicago shopping spree.

The indictment also alleges that Lipscomb passed Dixon thousands of dollars of cash - some of which she handed off to a staff member in a wad of 40 $100 bills while being driven around the city. The staff member, who is not named in the indictment, deposited the cash into his personal checking account and paid part of Dixon's American Express bill, the indictment says. Reality goes something like this. Rules that are more strict about public officials and stuff from people won't do any good. More required reporting of gifts won't do any good, either. At some point, some public officials don't care about rules, reporting or anything else. We need to assign actual persons to public officials to act as their brain for when the you're-so-special-you-won't-get-caught syndrome takes over otherwise functioning intellects.
